Biography

I am a Partner of Shearman & Sterling LLP based in our firm’s Tokyo office and head our firm’s Japan Mergers & Acquisitions practice. I have more than 24 years’ experience advising clients on a broad range of cross-border M&A transactions involving publicly listed companies, privately held companies and financial investors (private equity, venture capital, pension funds, sovereign wealth funds and banks), including strategic acquisitions, investments, divestitures, joint ventures, corporate reorganizations, and asset purchases and sales. My practice focuses on representing Japanese clients on transactions outside Japan and assisting multinational clients with transactions in Japan, and I have worked with clients across a wide range of industries such as energy (including gas, power and renewables), infrastructure (Including transportation, logistics and data centers), industrial (including automotive and chemicals), healthcare (including pharmaceuticals and medical devices) and technology (including semiconductors and e-commerce). I have also been an Adjunct Professor since 2014 at the Keio University Law School in Tokyo where I teach a course on mergers and acquisitions.
