Biography

James Besley is Deputy General Counsel at Google DeepMind. He has been at the organisation for 8 years and was their first in house counsel. Prior to joining GDM James was at Google for two years, and trained at CMS and he has also worked as in-house counsel at Amazon and Universal Records. James heads up the Regulatory and Governance Legal team at GDM, managing a team of 18 lawyers who counsel on a wide variety of areas relating to the responsible development and deployment of AI including advising on foundational model development and privacy, policy, litigation and security matters.
