Biography

Jon Gale is Chief Underwriting Officer or Reinsurance for AXA XL. He was appointed to his current position in January 2020. Immediately prior to this Jon was Chief Executive, Reinsurance in Bermuda from 2017 – 2020 and before that Chief Executive, Reinsurance in London from 2015 – 2017 as well as being Joint Active Underwriter of Catlin Syndicate 2003. During his career he worked as an underwriter in the US broker market and spent almost five years in the Bermuda market running Catlin’s start up Bermuda underwriting business from 2003 to 2008. In 2008 Jon returned to London to become Deputy Active Underwriter of Catlin Syndicate 2003 to focus on the development of Catlin London’s specialty insurance and reinsurance business. Jon is particularly interested in Climate Risk; the role (re) insurance plays in disaster recovery (speed and quality of recovery); focusing on the growing gap between economic loss and insured loss and the complementary potential of private (re) insurance and governments.
