Susan Meisel

Biography

Susan A. Meisel is Executive Vice President, Head of M&A and Strategic Investments and Corporate Deputy General Counsel for Sony Music Entertainment where she is the global legal and business affairs lead for Sony Music’s M&A and strategic investment activity. She is also responsible for overseeing the management of Sony’s global portfolio of 150 subsidiaries, protection and management of over 3000 trademarks and Sony Music’s commercial contracts, including global technology, real estate, finance and HR solutions. Since leaving her position as a capital markets and M&A corporate associate at Simpson Thacher, Susan has spent the past 30 years in a variety of in-house counsel roles, including Sony Electronic Publishing, Viacom New Media, the Institute of International Education, Village Voice Media and Credit Suisse. While at Sony Music, Susan has worked on numerous significant transactions, including Sony Music’s $768 million sale of Spotify equity in its 2018 direct listing IPO; $100 million Cornerstone Investment in NetEase Cloud Music’s Hong Kong stock exchange IPO; $430 million acquisition of AWAL, a UK-based artist services company from Kobalt Music Group; $230 million acquisition of Som Livre, a Brazilian music company from Globo; and the formation and subsequent expansion of a ticketing venture with CTS Eventim that now operates in Brazil, Chile and Peru. Susan also serves on the Board of Lirica, a start-up mobile app business for learning languages with the power of music, and BioBus, a New York-based not for profit that helps underrepresented and underserved individuals and communities discover, explore and pursue science. She is an Operating Advisor for The 98, a fund that invests in early stage technology businesses led by women and a member of the Leaders Circle of Women’s World Banking, not for profit whose mission is to expand the economic assets, participation, and power of low-income women and their households by helping them access financial services, knowledge, and markets. . Susan is a graduate of Georgetown Law School and Georgetown University.
