A webinar presented by the IBA India Working Group of the IBA Asia Pacific Regional Forum and supported by the IBA Diversity and Equality Law Committee, the IBA Employment and Industrial Relations Law Committee and the IBA Global Employment Institute (GEI).

India has overhauled its labour law framework − the government has made effective four labour codes that have replaced 29 national labour laws. The new labour codes apply to all employers, irrespective of size, scale, sector or location.

The webinar proposes to introduce the new regime, while covering the following key aspects:
  • the difference between ‘workers’ and ‘employees’ and the extent of their coverage;
  • what constitutes ‘wages’ and the financial impact on the employer;
  • new categorises within the workforce such as gig and platform workers, and the employer’s social security obligations;
  • consideration for engaging manpower and staffing service providers; and
  • • preparing management for ensuring overall compliance under the new labour codes.
