Thriving through law school and beyond: wellbeing in legal education

I am a solicitor (non-practising) and legal academic at the University of Sheffield, England. My interests are in wellbeing and emotions in the legal profession, lawtech and digital lawyering and digital wellbeing in law. I am author of a range of books and papers on these topics and lead on the Fit for Law project (www.fitforlaw.org.uk).

Professor of Legal Education, University of Portsmouth. Caroline’s academic career was preceded by a career in legal practice as a Solicitor. Caroline’s primary research area is legal education including investigating how principles of positive psychology may influence wellbeing of staff and students in Higher Education. She is a co-founder of Advancing Wellness in Law network and was Deputy Chair of the QAA’s advisory group that reviewed the Law subject benchmark statement and is part of an international team led by Dr Emma Jones, that is developing international guidelines for wellbeing in legal education.

Dr. Judy Jaunzems-Fernuk, RTC, MTC, is the Well-being Coordinator in the College of Law at the University of Saskatchewan. She is also a Lecturer and Researcher in the College of Education and Law, bringing over two decades of educational expertise and clinical practice to her endeavours. Judy has a keen interest in the intersections of mental health, leadership, and education. Therapeutic and healing-centred practices are her current focus. Judy believes self-care and personal well-being are essential for strong leadership, especially for those in caregiving professions, i.e., anyone in a position that holds humans at the heart of their work.

Dr. Shadi A. Alshdaifat earned a Bachelor’s degree in law (LLB) from Mu’tah University, Jordan in 2001. He also holds a master's degree in international and Comparative Law (LLM) from Dedman School of Law at Southern Methodist University (SMU), Dallas, Texas in 2009. He also holds a Science Juridical Doctorate (S.J.D.) from Golden Gate University School of Law (GGU) in San Francisco, California in 2012. Currently, Dr. Alshdaifat is an Associate Professor of Public International Law at the University of Sharjah, College of Law, He teaches Public International Law, International Organizations, Human Rights, Legal Studies in English, and Legal Skills in English. Dr. Alshdaifat's professional experience is diverse. He worked at Isra University for three years and acted as the Interim Dean of the Faculty of Law and Head of the Public Law Department several times. He worked as a senior legal adviser for the Saudi Telecom Company (STC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; taught and delivered classes for several different law schools in the U.S. and Jordan; and, he helped Iraqi and Sudanese refugees in his work for the Law Firm of Mitchell & Mir and the Human Rights Initiative (HRI) in Dallas, Texas.
