SUMMARY:Young lawyers programme: how to impress clients in cross-border m
atters and navigate cultural and other landmines?
DESCRIPTION:What skills do clients expect of cross-border lawyers? What a
re clients’ expectations in multi-jurisdictional matters that involve mu
ltiple law firms or multiple offices of the same global firm? Whether wo
rking with foreign offices of the same global firm or retaining foreign
counsel from independent local firms\, creating a ‘cross-border team’ th
at will play seamlessly in the client’s corner presents intrinsic challe
nges\, running from lack of communication and proper understanding of cu
ltural differences to lack of (or mis-) understanding of the legal posit
ion in the foreign jurisdiction – all issues that\, ultimately\, generat
e distrust among lawyers\nand potential disservice to the client. War (i
f not horror) stories abound.\n\nIn this seminar\, law firm practitioner
s and general counsel will lead the discussion of these topics\; given t
he hands-on training nature of this program\, we encourage active partic
 ipation by the audience.\n
