DESCRIPTION:In the Paris Agreement of 2016\, the signatory states committ
 ed to the goal of limiting global warning to well below 2\, preferably t
 o 1.5 degrees Celsius\, compared to pre-industrial levels. What is the s
 hipping industry doing to meet the Paris Agreement targets?\nIn this ses
 sion we will look at both formal regulations and private initiatives to 
 reduce greenhouse gas emissions from maritime transportation\, such as t
 he IMO’s ‘Initial Greenhouse Gas Strategy’\, setting the targets for red
 uction in CO2 and greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and 2050 respectively
 . We will also examine the EU’s ‘Fit for 55’ package\, which aims at red
 ucing greenhouse gas emissions by 55 per cent by 2030 and achieving carb
 on neutrality by 2050. A number of private initiatives\, such the Poseid
 on Principles\, Getting to Zero Coalition and others will also be discus
 sed. An important part of these discussions is what role new types of fu
 el\, as well as transition to other forms of energy resources\, will pla
 y in the future.
