SUMMARY:Training on digital evidence and the Berkeley protocol on digital
  open source investigations
DESCRIPTION:HumanRightsIn December 2020\, the United Nations' Human Right
 s Office and the University of California\, Berkeley's Human Rights Cent
 erpublished an advance version of the Berkeley protocol on digital open 
 source investigations. Created through a collaborative\ninternational pr
 ocess\, the protocol was designed to set professional standards and guid
 elines for the identification\, collection\, preservation\, verification
  and analysis of digital open source Information. The ultimate aim was t
 o improve the effective use of\nsuch information in international crimin
 al\, human rights\, and humanitarian investigations\, and ultimately\, c
 ourts.In early 2022\, the protocol will be released in all of the langua
 ges of the United Nations. To mark the protocol's global release\,member
 s of the protocol's coordinating committee will provide an introduction 
 to the document\, as well as a brief training forinternational judges an
 d/or lawyers that spotlights the opportunities and challenges that come 
 with using such information in courtprocesses. The training will be desi
 gned to help participants systematically evaluate digital open source in
 formation's authenticityand reliability\, including how to assess whethe
 r such information is disinformation or misinformation\, and how to mini
 mize the riskof human or machine bias in such information's collection a
 nd evaluation.
